Preheat oven to 350 °F. Grease bottom of loaf pan.
Mix sugar and margarine, stir in eggs. Add bananas and water; beat 30 seconds. Stir in remaining ingredients except nuts just until moistened; stir in nuts (or chocolate chips). Pour into pan.
Bake 1¼ hours for 8-inch loaf: 55 to 60 minutes for 9-inch loaf.
